HARGEISA — The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, has officially inaugurated the Somaliland Independence and Recognition Institute (SIRI), a world-class research and diplomatic institution dedicated to advancing Somaliland’s legal, historical, political, and self-determination case on the international stage.
Speaking at the launch, the President described the establishment of the institute as a clear reflection of Somaliland’s political maturity, institutional development, and the unwavering determination of its people to safeguard their sovereignty and achieve full international recognition.
A centre for research, documentation and advocacy
He emphasized that the institute will serve as a leading center for research, documentation, and strategic advocacy, preserving Somaliland’s legal and historical legacy while strengthening intellectual and diplomatic engagement globally. The institute is also expected to become a key platform bringing together scholars, historians, legal experts, diplomats, policymakers, and international partners interested in Somaliland’s cause.
The President further highlighted the institute’s role in reinforcing Somaliland’s recognition efforts, promoting research on peacebuilding and democratic governance, strengthening engagement with international institutions, and inspiring future generations to appreciate the value of nationhood, unity, and statehood.
Somaliland has maintained more than three decades of peace, stability, democratic progress, and effective governance.
These achievements, His Excellency stated, provide Somaliland with both the legal justification and moral standing to secure its rightful place within the international community.
