The National Drought Relief Committee led by the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, and Chairman of the Drought Relief Committee, Mr. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Saylici), today met with officials from SONSAF along with some independent and state-owned media leaders.
The purpose of the meeting was to brief the Drought Relief Committee and non-governmental organizations on the level of drought and the committee’s efforts so far in responding to drought-affected areas, and to have a clear plan for each emergency response.
Prior to the start, some members of the National Drought Committee who spoke there, said that as a committee they assessed the extent of the drought, and that various sections of society and organizations need to work with the committee to help people and animals in need, and noted that the media would have to play its part.
Speaking on behalf of SONSAF and the independent media, members also underlined their readiness to play their part in the relief effort, and the media stated that they were preparing a report that clearly showed the extent of the drought.
The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, and Chairman of the National Drought Committee, Mr. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Saylici) addressed the gathering, thanking the participants, who have shown great patriotism and concern for their drought-stricken people.
