President Bihi Attends 31st Anniversary of Somaliland Police Force

Hargeisa, Somaliland – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, presided over the official ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the establishment of the Somaliland Police Force. As part of the event, the President also inaugurated key infrastructure projects, including hospitals, a large multipurpose hall, new offices, and a fuel station—all developed for the police force.

The ceremony was attended by high-level dignitaries, including the Attorney General, H.E. Abdirahman Jama Hayan, the second Vice President of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Aw Ali Farah, military commanders, members of parliament, ministers, political leaders, and distinguished guests. The event opened with a theatrical performance showcasing the critical role of the police force in safeguarding public safety and its importance in promoting unity and societal welfare.

Traditional leader Sultan Hussein Abdi Abdillahi, who spoke at the event, commended the police force for their dedicated service. He extended his praise to their families, describing the police as selfless patriots who have continuously served their nation with honor and sacrifice.

In his remarks, Vice President Abdirahman Aw Ali Farah praised the police for their 31 years of service, acknowledging the challenges they have overcome and the significant progress they have made in becoming a modern and capable force.

The Head of Police Operations, Brigadier General Ibrahim Abdi Haji Mahmoud, provided a detailed overview of the crimes addressed over the past year and highlighted the professional manner in which the police force managed security operations. He emphasized the force’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability.

Commander of the Somaliland Police Force, Major General Mohamed Adan Saqadhi, expressed his congratulations to the police personnel, underscoring the advancements in training, skills development, and overall capacity-building within the force. He noted that the police are now equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to handle the heavy responsibilities entrusted to them by the nation.

President Muse Bihi, in his keynote speech, praised the police for their unwavering dedication to protecting the rights of the people. He reflected on the force’s early formation and the significant strides they have made in becoming a well-organized and effective institution.

“The police are the foundation of our society’s unity and the protectors of individual rights,” President Bihi said. “When the police safeguard constitutional rights, peace and stability prevail.”

The President also inaugurated new infrastructure projects funded by the national budget, including a large multipurpose hall, 16 offices, a fuel station, and a state-of-the-art hospital for the police force. In recognition of their efforts, the President awarded certificates of honor to the officers from the police construction department who led the successful completion of these projects.
