His Excellency Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, widely known as “Irro”, is a statesman of distinguished public service and unwavering commitment to the cause of Somaliland’s sovereignty.
Elected with a historic mandate in November 2024, he assumed the role of President following a peaceful transfer of power, a hallmark of Somaliland’s democratic resilience.
Dr. Irro is a former Speaker of the House of Representatives (2005–2017) and co-founder of the Waddani political party, through which he led robust parliamentary and civil transitions. He is recognised for his ability to mobilise both national and diaspora support behind Somaliland’s recognition campaign.
He is known for his legislative expertise and calm, consensus-based politics, and is respected across generational and regional divides for his commitment to democratic governance and national unity.
