Somaliland: President Bihi Attends 28th Anniversary of the Police Force

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, participated in a grand ceremony to mark the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Somaliland Police Force. The commemoration ceremony was held at the Police Headquarters and accompanying the President were the Chief Justice, former Vice Presidents, cabinet members, other senior military commanders along with the leadership of Kulmiye and Waddani parties, the police commanders of Djibouti and the Somali Regional State, various government officials and many other dignitaries, and discussed the importance of the police force to the nation.

Prior to the start, the Chief of Operations, Mr. Ibrahim Abdi Haji Nur, highlighted the number of crimes committed in the country this year, the efforts made by the police to apprehend all the culprits and the importance they place on maintaining public order and security.

Speaking at the event, the Police Chiefs of Djibouti and the Somali Regional State, in turn, congratulated the Police Force of the Republic of Somaliland and wished them success and prosperity, underlining the need for greater cooperation between the Somaliland Police Force.

The Commander of the Police Force of the Republic of Somaliland, Brigadier General Mohamed Aden Saqadhi (Dabagale) who also addressed the gathering, gave an in-depth account of his commitment as a Commander to build trust between the people and the Police Force. In his remarks, Commander Dabagale said, “ I have significantly reorganized the police force, and brought in more young professionals who are proficient in the field of modern technology and can keep up with the various new methods criminals employ these days.”

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Musa Bihi Abdi, concluded the ceremony by congratulating the Police Force of the Republic of Somaliland and their spouses, and described them as courageous volunteers who have sacrificed their lives, property, and wealth for their nation. “Congratulations to the Police Force and I wish you all a successful and prosperous year. Sadly, some of the biggest problems facing our police force today are the many killings of its members, who are only serving the national interests of our nation. This is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately, so that we can stand tall and strong as a nation,” said President Bihi.
