Somaliland: President Bihi Receives a Large Delegation from the US Congress

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, received at the Presidential Palace a large delegation from the United States Congress on a working visit to Somaliland. First, President Bihi briefed the members of the delegation on the progress made in the Republic of Somaliland over the past three decades, noting that a concerted effort has been made here, in collaboration with the people and the government to safeguard peace and development. Somaliland has also held multiple democratic elections that have painted an impressive image about Somaliland in the eyes of the international world, and is now leading the way in democracy in Africa and many other countries. 

For their part, the members of the delegation thanked the President and the people of Somaliland for the warm welcome they received upon their arrival in the country. The delegation had several private meetings with members from the House of Representatives, the local Councils, and several Ministers. They have also met with women’s organizations along with the University of Hargeisa who hosted a dinner for the delegation. Upon witnessing the progress, and democracy in the country, the delegations pledged to provide a comprehensive report to the US Congress. 

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations of the two countries, regional security, stability in the Horn of Africa as well as a number of other political issues. The President was accompanied by the Vice President of Somaliland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Deputy Minister of Interior and Security, the Ambassador of Somaliland to the United States and the Director of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.
