His Excellency, President of the Republic of Somaliland, Musa Bihi Abdi, today spoke out strongly about the repeated killings in Las Anod.

“My deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Abdifatah Abdallahi Abdi (Hadrawi), who was killed last night by armed gunmen in Las Anod. My condolences to all those lost in yesterday’s violence inside the city. May Allah have mercy on them,” said President Musa Bihi.

Abdifatah Abdullahi Abdi Hardrawi was killed by a masked assailant not far from a mosque where he had just performed the Isha prayers. Abdifattah’s death is in a long string of assassinations that appear to be targeting members of the Somaliland government or its national parties. Next morning, residents in the eastern city of Las Anod, took to violent demonstrations in the main streets of the city in response to the assassination news.

In his remarks, President Bihi said, “I call on all the people of Las Anod to unite with us in standing against these despicable acts happening in our country. We will not heal during this time of turmoil by turning against and attacking each other. We will come together united in ending these targeted killings of our citizens and elected officials.”
