The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi, today inaugurated the Hargeisa Technical Institute, which has undergone extensive renovations, modernization, and upgrades.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Cabinet, the Deputy Mayor of the Capital, leaders of the ruling party KULMIYE, politicians, community leaders, and other dignitaries. They emphasized the importance of this institute in enhancing education and providing skills that can significantly contribute to creating visible job opportunities for the country’s youth.
The Minister of Education and Science, Dr. Ahmed Aadan Buuxane, provided an in-depth overview of the Hargeisa Technical Institute and its role in job creation and the development of essential skills for young people. He highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening vocational and technical education, noting that a policy has been established to guide this initiative. He stated, “We have directed our educational focus toward technical training because, in many parts of the world, educational policies allocate 75% of students to vocational training, and we are ready with our own educational policy.”
Dr. Ciise Keyd Maxamuud, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland, praised the new technical institute in Hargeisa, highlighting its significance in meeting a critical need within the community.
President Muse Bihi Abdi expressed his appreciation for the completion of the Hargeisa Technical Institute, reflecting on the achievements of its graduates and their contributions to society.
The President extended his gratitude to everyone involved in the establishment of the institute, stating that it is time for the nation to focus on technical education. “As a nation comprised of accountants and business professionals, it is vital that we create market opportunities, highlighting the importance of directing our people towards technical and vocational skills,” remarked President Muse Bihi Abdi.
The new technical institute in Burco features 32 classrooms, each capable of accommodating at least 40 students, six workshops for mechanical studies, a solar energy facility, and two modern greenhouses for agricultural training. The project has an estimated cost of 2.4 million US dollars.
