The President of the Republic of Somaliland and Commander-in-Chief of the National Armed Forces, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), conducted an official visit to the National Army Headquarters, where he met with senior military officials and delivered a significant address to the armed forces.
Upon arrival, the President was received with a ceremonial salute by a unit of the National Army. He was welcomed by the Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Nuux Ismaaciil Taani, alongside senior officers from the headquarters. The President was accompanied by members of the Cabinet, the National Security Advisor, and senior commanders from various branches of the armed forces.
During the visit, President Cirro toured the facility, inspecting its various departments and inaugurating newly constructed infrastructure designed to bolster the operational capacity of the military.
Major General Nuux Ismaaciil Taani expressed his appreciation for the President’s visit, describing it as a morale-boosting occasion that underscored the government’s dedication to supporting the armed forces and addressing their needs.
In his address, President Cirro commended the National Army for their exceptional dedication, courage, and service to the nation. He highlighted the critical role of the armed forces in safeguarding Somaliland’s sovereignty, stability, and national pride. The President further explained that his visit was aimed at assessing the conditions of the armed forces, understanding their challenges, and identifying key areas for reform and development.
President Cirro reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promise of a 250 percent salary increase for military personnel during his term. He acknowledged the financial difficulties Somaliland has faced in recent years due to factors such as conflicts, elections, and significant infrastructure damage. Despite these challenges, the President assured that his government remains resolute in its efforts to prioritize the welfare and development of the armed forces. The salary increase will be formalized through a Presidential Decree.
The visit concluded with President Cirro reiterating the government’s unwavering dedication to strengthening the armed forces through continued investment and reforms, which are essential for ensuring national security and resilience.
