Somaliland: President Irro Inspects Coast Guard Headquarters

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), conducted an official visit to the General Headquarters of the Somaliland Coast Guard.

Upon arrival, the President was received by the Coast Guard Commander, Major General Ahmed Hurre Harriye, and other senior officers. He was presented with an honor guard by a unit of the Coast Guard, reflecting the esteem in which the service is held.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the operational conditions and challenges faced by the Coast Guard and to set the foundation for the government’s ongoing efforts to reform and modernize the nation’s security forces. President Abdirahman Irro highlighted the critical importance of maritime security and reaffirmed Somaliland’s commitment to safeguarding its territorial waters as a national priority.

The President expressed his appreciation for the Coast Guard’s selfless dedication to the nation’s security. He outlined the government’s plans to enhance their operational capabilities, including improvements in training, skills, and equipment, in collaboration with international partners. Furthermore, he emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of Coast Guard personnel as part of a broader initiative to support the nation’s security forces.

As a strategic stakeholder in the Red Sea, Somaliland remains committed to ensuring its voice is heard in regional and global discussions concerning maritime security. The President underscored that Somaliland’s lack of formal recognition does not negate its critical role in maintaining security and stability in the Red Sea region.

The President’s visit concluded with commendations for the leadership and dedication of the Coast Guard. He was accompanied by key officials, including the Ministers of Defense and Interior, the Mayor of Hargeisa, the Governor of Maroodi-Jeeh region, and senior military personnel.
