The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi has chaired a crucial preparatory meeting in Ceel Afweyn with the committee overseeing the upcoming peace conference aimed at reconciling local communities affected by conflict.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation representing the Unity and Progress Government including Cabinet Ministers, the Commander of the National Army, the Governor of Sanaag, local administrators, members of parliament, and traditional leaders led by King Cismaan Aw Maxamuud Buurmadow, the Vice President reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to peace and stability.
In his address, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi underscored the fundamental role of peace in national development, urging the communities in Ceel Afweyn to embrace dialogue and reconciliation, where he stated:
“The government is fully committed to fostering peace and unity across Somaliland. Once stability is achieved, we will implement key development projects in the Sanaag region to enhance infrastructure and improve livelihoods,”
Following productive discussions, it was unanimously agreed that the Ceel Afweyn Peace Conference will officially commence on Wednesday 19th of March, 2025.
The Vice President assured all stakeholders that the government will fully implement the resolutions reached during the conference, ensuring a lasting and sustainable peace in Ceel Afweyn, Sanaag region and beyond.
