The President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi has issued a presidential decree termed as Lr. 12/022021, setting the new election date to be May 31st. The move comes after taking into account the Guurti [Somaliland Upper House of Parliament] decision and the Electoral Commission’s latest proposal that the new date be on the 31st.
The chairman of SNEC Hon. Riyo-raac submitted the proposal to the President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, urging the president to issue a Presidential Decree over the allotted time.
Prior the Guurti decision, Somaliland National Electoral Commission has today slated the time schedule for the Local and Parliamentary Elections. In a closed door meeting at the Presidency, NEC delineated that 31st May, 2021 will be the schedule allotted for local and parliamentary elections to occur.
