Somaliland Celebrates Independence Day

Yesterday, Somaliland celebrated the 62nd anniversary of independence from Britain on June 26, 1960 at the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Somaliland. 

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Somaliland, HE Muse Bihi Abdi, the Vice President, HE Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Saylici), MPs, Ministers, Ambassadors, Diplomats and other distinguished guests.  

During the first part of the evening, several popular bands presented a variety of songs and dances that reflect the importance of June 26th and the progress made within the country since that day.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed, who spoke at the event, elaborated on the value of this national day and the efforts made for independence. 

Likewise, the Speaker of the House of Elders, Mr. Saleban Mohamud Aden, on his part congratulated the public on independence day and called on the leaders of the opposition parties to respect the laws of the land and give unity and solidarity to the people.

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, HE Muse Bihi Abdi, addressed the gathering, congratulating the public on the 62nd anniversary of Somaliland’s independence from the United Kingdom, and went on to describe Somaliland’s achievements during its independence.
