Somaliland: President Bihi Bids Farewell to Taiwan Scholarship Winners

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, today held a farewell ceremony to celebrate the 33 students who have won scholarships from the government of Taiwan.

The farewell ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace, and was attended by members of the Cabinet, the Chairman of the Somaliland Higher Education Commission, the Ambassadors of Somaliland and Taiwan, to encourage students and thank their dedicated parents and Taiwan Government.

Prior to the start, Ambassador Allen C. Lou thanked President Bihi for hosting them in the Presidential Palace and congratulated the 33 students who received a full scholarship or a partial one. He then went on to speak about the deep ties between Somaliland and Taiwan and the value of the scholarships offered to these students, and thus urged the scholarship recipients to take advantage of this opportunity.

Similarly, the Ministers of Education and Science, and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Ahmed Mohamed Diriye (Toorno) and Dr. Issa Keyd Mohamud, advised the scholarship winning students to be ambassadors representing their nation to the best of their ability. 

President Bihi concluded the farewell meeting by congratulating the students present and urging them to be beneficiaries of these scholarships. Afterwards, the President shared with the students his experience of past scholarships abroad, and noted that their generation has strived to leave a lasting legacy for future ones. “We have met with you and we have taken you there, and you are required to take it from there Insha’Allah.” said President Muse Bihi Abdi.

Finally, the President pledged at the forum that the government will provide airline tickets for students who are partially paying for their scholarships.
