The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, today held a luncheon at the Presidential Palace for members of the House of Representatives elected by the people on May 31, 2021. The President was accompanied by the Vice President, Chairman of the Supreme Court, Mayor of Hargeisa, members of the House of Representatives, members of the Council of Ministers, heads of various government agencies and many other dignitaries.
Prior to the start, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed who addressed the forum, thanked the President for honoring the invitation, adding that the President is the leader of the nation and has the right to convene and meet with the various councils. “We are grateful to the President for the invitation. All the institutions of government sitting here are coordinated by the president as he is responsible for the government. However, the council is responsible for the parliament, so is the judiciary, but we all fall under his command,” said the Speaker.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Adan Haji Ali Ahmed, for his part, gave an overview of the three pillars of the nation and the way they work together. He also urged the parliamentarians to invest more time in serving their constituency whilst building their political future.
His Excellency Muse Bihi Abdi, who extended the invitation thanked the members of parliament for joining him, underlining that his message was that respect for diversity of opinion should be respected and debated in a civilized manner. In his remarks, President Bihi said, “We ask God to be a government that works for the good of the nation and its people. And in times of disagreements, we should remember to workout our differences in a way that is respectful to all.”
