The 5th session of the Somaliland Council of Ministers was held today under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), with the presence of His Excellency Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi. The meeting focused on deliberating significant national issues aimed at strengthening governance and advancing development.
Key topics on the agenda included:
- National Security – The ministers discussed the current state of security across the country, with insights and updates provided by the relevant authorities.
- Economic Developments – An in-depth analysis of the nation’s economic performance was presented, including updates on financial stability and growth prospects.
- Education Sector Progress – The Ministry of Education shared recent advancements and ongoing initiatives to improve access to quality education nationwide.
- Livestock Export Developments – Ministers reviewed recent activities and challenges related to livestock exports, a cornerstone of Somaliland’s economy, with detailed reports from the Ministry of Livestock.
The Council also addressed procedural and administrative matters:
- Business Licensing Framework – The Minister of Trade and Tourism delivered a comprehensive report on the authorities responsible for issuing business licenses, outlining strategies to enhance transparency and efficiency.
- Government Vehicle Registration – The Minister of Transport and Road Development provided an update on the ongoing registration of government vehicles and the issuance of official logbooks, aimed at improving accountability in public resources management.
- National Development Plan Alignment – The Minister of Planning and National Development highlighted the ministry’s strategic role in harmonizing the National Development Plan III with the ruling party’s policy objectives.
In addition, the Council reviewed the Standing Orders of the Cabinet in a first reading, with the Attorney General presenting an overview of the draft rules and their implications for effective governance.
The session concluded with a call from the Minister of the Presidency urging all ministers to finalize and submit their contributions to the 100-Day Action Plan. This plan reflects the administration’s commitment to delivering tangible results during its initial days in office.
