His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), President of the Republic of Somaliland, presided over a significant consultative meeting today at the Presidential Palace with the leadership of the three national political parties: WADDANI, KAAH, and KULMIYE.
In his opening remarks, the President expressed his sincere gratitude to the party leaders for accepting his invitation. He congratulated them on their pivotal roles in the recent elections, which reaffirmed their positions as Somaliland’s recognized national political entities for the decade ahead.
The President highlighted the critical importance of sustained dialogue and collaboration between the government and political parties. He emphasized that regular consultations are essential for addressing national priorities and crafting unified responses to emerging challenges. His Excellency reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and ensuring that the political parties remain integral partners in the governance process.
During the meeting, the President provided a detailed briefing on the country’s security situation, focusing particularly on the ongoing conflicts in the Ceerigaabo district. He underscored the government’s unwavering dedication to peace, reiterating that it does not perceive its citizens as adversaries. Nevertheless, he emphasized the government’s constitutional obligation to protect the nation from any external threats, affirming that the National Armed Forces are fully authorized to defend Somaliland’s sovereignty and its people.
As a gesture of goodwill and reconciliation, His Excellency issued an unconditional call for peace to all parties involved in the conflicts in the eastern Sool region and the Ceerigaabo district. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, unity, and national stability.
The leaders of the opposition parties, KAAH and KULMIYE, expressed their appreciation to the President for initiating this consultative forum. They acknowledged the importance of such engagements in fostering national cohesion and advancing Somaliland’s interests. Both parties pledged their steadfast cooperation with the administration on key matters, including security, economic development, and societal unity. They also offered insightful and constructive recommendations for addressing current security challenges and resolving conflicts through peaceful dialogue.
Additionally, the opposition leaders committed to supporting the government’s initiatives to raise public awareness, foster social harmony, and counter divisive rhetoric. They emphasized the need to strengthen Somaliland’s democratic institutions and empower political parties to promote intellectual growth and combat clan-based divisions.
The leadership of the ruling WADDANI party also commended the consultative approach, aligning themselves with the sentiments expressed by the opposition parties. They reiterated the importance of collective action on critical national issues, particularly the stabilization of conflict-affected areas in Ceerigaabo and Sool.
The meeting concluded with a closing address by His Excellency President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi, who once again thanked the leaders of WADDANI, KAAH, and KULMIYE for their active participation. He described the dialogue as a milestone in fostering unity and advancing Somaliland’s national interests. His Excellency emphasized that the meeting had successfully achieved its objectives of promoting mutual understanding, collaboration, and shared responsibility for the nation’s progress.
