Somaliland: President Inspects Operations at Custodial Corps Headquarters

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), conducted an official visit today to the headquarters of the Custodial Corps, located in central Hargeisa.

Upon his arrival, the President was formally welcomed by the Commander of the Custodial Corps, Major General Ahmed Awale Yusuf (Libaax), and honored with a ceremonial salute from units of the Custodial Corps. Following this, the President toured the facility and inspected its various departments.

Major General Yusuf provided the President with an overview of the Custodial Corps’ vital contributions to national security, including their responsibility for the management and rehabilitation of detainees.

During his address, the President commended the Custodial Corps for their unwavering commitment to public safety and the enforcement of the rule of law. He highlighted the significance of their role, which encompasses not only the secure custody of detainees but also their rehabilitation and reintegration into society, as mandated by the Constitution.

The President reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening the capacity of the Custodial Corps. He announced plans to provide enhanced training programs, modern equipment, and professional development opportunities to support their operations. He also confirmed that members of the Custodial Corps would benefit from salary increases and improved access to healthcare and education, aligning their benefits with those of other national security forces.

The President further outlined initiatives to improve the education and welfare of detainees, including the introduction of a specialized curriculum tailored to their needs. Additionally, he revealed plans to construct dedicated detention facilities for women and juveniles, addressing a critical need to better accommodate these vulnerable groups.
