The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi, accompanied by the Vice President, His Excellency Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, held a significant meeting today with leaders of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) at the Presidential Palace.

During the meeting, President Abdirahman expressed his gratitude to the CSO leaders for their vital contributions to the nation. He highlighted their critical role in driving Somaliland’s development, fostering a positive international image, and supporting the ongoing quest for international recognition.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with CSOs to address key national priorities. He emphasized that his government upholds the fundamental rights of all citizens as guaranteed by the Constitution. He also assured that freedom of expression and constructive criticism would always be respected under his leadership, without fear of suppression or intimidation.

The President encouraged the CSO leaders to intensify their efforts in public awareness campaigns, particularly in combating clanism, promoting social harmony, and eliminating discrimination.

In response, the CSO leaders expressed their appreciation for the swift response to their request for a meeting. They pledged their readiness to support the government in addressing critical national challenges, including security, economic development, and social issues.

The leaders also commended the administration’s historic steps toward inclusion, notably the appointment of a full cabinet minister from the Gabooye community—the first such appointment in 34 years. They called for the swift enactment of anti-discrimination legislation to further advance equality and social cohesion.

Furthermore, the CSO leaders lauded the President for appointing women to key positions in his government, recognizing it as a testament to his vision and commitment to gender equity.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advancing Somaliland’s national interests and fostering closer collaboration between the government and civil society.
