Somaliland: Vice President Leads Regional Dialogue on Peace and Unity

The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Maxamed Ali Aw Abdi, led a high-level delegation on a working visit to Ceel-Afweyn, where he held a pivotal consultative meeting with traditional leaders, community elders, and prominent business figures from the regions of Togdheer, Sanaag, Saaxil, and Saraar.

The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between the government and local stakeholders on matters of national importance, with a special focus on consolidating peace, enhancing security, and promoting social unity.

Key agenda issues included the formal integration of the Civil Defense Forces, the advancement of peace-building initiatives in Ceel-Afweyn, and the need for unified national action in safeguarding the sovereignty and stability of the Republic of Somaliland.

Participants voiced strong support for the government’s agenda, re-affirming their commitment to advancing lasting peace and sustainable development across the nation. 

Traditional leaders and intellectuals underscored the vital importance of a unified, community-driven approach—anchored in cultural values, mutual respect, and shared responsibility—as the foundation for enduring national stability.

In his address, the Vice President Mohammed Ali Aw Abdi underscored the critical role of peace as the foundation for progress and prosperity. He extended his appreciation to the traditional leadership and community representatives for their patriotism and constructive engagement, and reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the institutionalization of the Civil Defense Forces, including logistical support and command structure.

The Government of Somaliland is unwavering in its commitment to protecting the safety, dignity, and collective future of its people. Peace, unity, and national identity are not just guiding principles—they are the foundation upon which our Republic stands. We will continue to partner with communities across all regions to preserve these values and advance the shared aspirations of our nation,” stated the Vice President.

He further emphasized that the current administration is fully dedicated to fostering inclusivity, unity, and shared progress across all regions, in alignment with the principles of responsible governance and national solidarity.

The meeting concluded with a strong consensus and a renewed sense of purpose among all parties, marking a significant step forward in the country’s ongoing efforts to build a peaceful, united, and resilient nation.
