Somaliland’s Council of Ministers Convenes for the First Time

The first session of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland, presided over by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), and accompanied by His Excellency the Vice President, Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, took place on December 15, 2024, at the Presidential Palace. The session was attended by all members of the Council, comprising Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and State Ministers.  

In his opening address, the President outlined the vital responsibilities entrusted to the Council of Ministers, emphasizing their shared mandate to deliver efficient and transparent governance. He introduced the administration’s roadmap, anchored in the six pillars of the party’s manifesto, which prioritizes national unity, collective collaboration, and delivering tangible results to the people of Somaliland.  

The President further detailed his administration’s immediate priorities for the first 100 days, calling on the Council to demonstrate unwavering commitment, integrity, and accountability in fulfilling their duties.  

The session also involved a comprehensive review of proposed amendments to Law No. 71/2015, which governs the structure of the government. These revisions are aimed at enhancing the organizational framework of ministries and independent agencies to align with the evolving needs of governance.  

In addition, the President addressed pressing security concerns in parts of the Sanaag region, reaffirming the government’s commitment to peace and stability. He urged all stakeholders to support efforts to uphold security and harmony across the region.  

This inaugural session marked the beginning of the Council’s collective effort to implement the administration’s vision and work diligently towards progress, peace, and prosperity for the people of Somaliland.
