His Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mohamed Ali Aw Cabdi, officially inaugurated the Ceel-Afweyn National Peace Conference today at the Grand Mosque in Ceel-Afweyn, Sanaag region.
The opening ceremony brought together a distinguished delegation, including Cabinet Ministers, the Commander of the National Armed Forces, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Members of Parliament, religious scholars, and traditional leaders representing the brotherly communities of the region.
During the event, speakers emphasized the fundamental importance of peace and stability for the well-being and progress of Ceel-Afweyn. They urged all stakeholders to work collectively toward lasting reconciliation while upholding unity and social harmony.
In his address, Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Cabdi reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to resolving the recurring conflicts in Ceel-Afweyn and ensuring sustainable peace. He emphasized that the administration is dedicated to implementing key development initiatives that will uplift the local communities and contribute to long-term stability.
“Our presence in Sanaag during this sacred month of Ramadan is a testament to our deep concern and solidarity with the people of Ceel-Afweyn. We are committed to restoring the town’s former peace and prosperity. I urge all members of the community to stand together—live together, consult together, and shape a peaceful future together.”
As part of the government’s commitment to supporting the affected communities, the Vice President announced an emergency relief initiative to deliver urgent food and water supplies to the residents of Ceel-Afweyn. This initiative underscores the administration’s dedication to addressing both the humanitarian and developmental needs of the region.
The government of Somaliland remains resolute in its efforts to foster lasting peace, strengthen social cohesion, and advance economic development across the nation.
