Somaliland: President Chairs Kulmiye Party Executive Committee Meeting

The President of the Republic of Somaliland and the Chairman of the Kulmiye Party, H.E. Musa Bihi Abdi, chaired a meeting held today by the executive committee of the Kulmiye Party at the capital, Hargeisa.

During this meeting, the President was accompanied by the Vice-President of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Abdirahman Abdullahi Ismail (Saylici) and all the members of the party’s executive committee, and it focused on the importance of accelerating party activities. The committee also heard a lengthy report from the second deputy-chairman of the party, Hon. Abdirahman Abdirahman Dhere, who recently went on a working trip through different regions of the country.

Prior to the start, the former Minister of Finance, Hon. Abdiaziz Mohamed Samale, who is a member of the executive committee of the party, spoke on behalf of the party committee that recently visited the different regions of the country. The former Minister described in depth the various meetings they have had with the many different communities in the areas they have visited, and noted their enthusiasm and commitment to the government and the Kulmiye Party. 

The calls for legislation and the recent disagreement between the government and opposition over the sequencing of two forthcoming high-stakes elections were also discussed at the meeting, as well as their views as a party on how to face the constitutional measures taken by the opposition.

At the end of the meeting of the executive committee, the secretary general of the party, Hon. Faysal Abdirahman Madar, read a statement to the press that said, “The recent statements made by the opposition, asserting that they will no longer recognize the current President, has no legal basis and thus is invalid. The party commends President Bihi for always safeguarding the values of our constitution and laws and urges him to be patient.”
