Somaliland: President Bihi Meets with UN Delegation

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, today received in his office the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somaliland and Somalia, Dr. Adan Abdimawla, who is on a working visit to the country.

The meeting discussed issues such as the framework for co-operation between the Republic of Somaliland and the United Nations, first and foremost UN projects in Somaliland, the overall drought situation in the country and Somaliland’s plans for these issues, and the role the UN would partake in the effort. They also discussed the third National Development Plan (NDPIII), which is expected to harmonize all development projects.

For their part, the UN Delegation commended all the efforts made by the Government of the Republic of Somaliland including the cyclone Sagar that hit the coast of Somaliland, the control of Covid 19 disease and the free vaccinations provided by the government to its people. The fact that an unrecognized country in the midst of so many disasters was able to accomplish so much, attracted the attention of the world. 

The President was accompanied by the Minister of Planning and National Development of Somaliland, and on Abdimawla side was the Head of OCHA, Makiha Kimura, Simone Strachan, Head of the UN Office in Hargeisa, Sabine Corrinna Friedrich, Mustafe Khayre and Abdi Askar.
